Odense, Denmark

Odense is a historic city on the island of Funen in Denmark. It’s the third largest city in Denmark. Known for its castle, harbor, and cycling culture, it boasts a charming, walkable city center with cobblestone streets, colorful buildings and a rich 1,000 year old cultural heritage. It is considered a green city with 120 parks, 250 playgrounds and over 560 kilometers of bicycle paths!

Odense offers a blend of modern amenities and historical attractions, including a rich blend of art museums, cultural and historical sites. Being the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, it also has many museums and attractions dedicated to the famous fairy tale author. This city of 205,000 has a vibrant food scene, with many restaurants and cafes offering both traditional Danish cuisine and international options.

Odense is relatively affordable compared to larger Denmark cities and European capitals, with excellent housing options and a relaxed pace of life. It is also an excellent academic and university city — on average, every 12th person in Odense is a university student.

Odense has a moderate climate with distinct seasons. Summers are mild and winters are relatively short and not excessively cold.
